It goes with Mokou herself since otherwise it's trivial to escape the horrific and infinite existence you consigned yourself to since you could body swap with a cat or some shit and finally die. The soul is what makes the body and it doesn't matter how many times the body is destroyed or reduced to atoms, the soul is immutable and will always generate a new body. Souls are immortal, the body is mortal, but they can still be altered and destroyed. The elixir makes the soul truly immortal and can never be destroyed or changed.
