Personally, I think it's a functional excuse to keep the singular dynamic of MGE which made it so popular in the first place. Otherwise you might as well be talking about anything with a 3.5 system ripoff. It's hilarious that the people that argue for monsterboys seem to think they need to be included for some kind of uniqueness or variety when it's just shoving things into the generic fantasy morass that exists everywhere.

On top of that it functions as a firewall for yaoi, traps, "it's not gay if it's an elf" and every other sort of thing like that which sets threads on fire.
