The reason youkai pass out after being possessed while humans don't is that they get drained of magical power, which for a youkai is crucial to their functioning but for a human is ignorable. The immortals still have their human bodies, but they clearly do run on more than regular old biology, so all it means is that they also are powered by magic enough to matter.
