This might be a dumb question, but I gave my strongest pet with all superb potentials an herbed food and she didn't gain a single stat.

Why? If herbs aren't the way, then I have no idea how to get pets that won't get pulverized in nanoseconds by a sleeping giant (jesus fuck boosted bakuretuken should be illegal)
