In Ever17, they had a full week before death, and everybody assumed they would be rescued so passively waiting was pretty much the only option. I'd say Ever17's response of disregarding the unthinkable until the end where it really starts to get to people is more realistic.

1 and 2 are normal responses to repeated pleasant experiences. It's the same if you eat something delicious, play an awesome game, and so on. The first time it's amazing. The second time it's not amazing but still great. But the more often you repeat the same pleasant experience, the more you get used to it and the less you enjoy it. Chicken sandwiches are tasty, but if you eat them every single day you'll get sick of them. The solution is to simply engage in the experience less frequently (by either going for something different, such as a new kind of food, or by simply abstaining from the pleasant experience for some time (there's a correlation between how much you enjoy fapping and the time since your last fap)).
