The brits controlled both the suez canal and the strait of Gibralta, which cut off the Italians from most of their trade so most of their BBs didn't even have the fuel to leave port. They also had no good answer to british CVs, leading to a number of devestating air raids. Not to mention that brits simply had a numerical superiority, that was always the biggest strenght of the royal navy.
