Gate of Baylon is not a magic gate or a permanent time/space rip at Gil's command--it's a sword. It's ability is to open his vault in the heart of the ancient Babylonian capital to access what's there. What's there is shitloads of gold, baubles, potions, furs, a few ships, likely a lot of statues, and Gil's entire offensive arsenal. He's only proficient with, like, ten of them, so the rest are projectile spammed at a low-mana cost (GoB is low mana, high impact). GoB's secondary property allowed all unused/undisturbed treasures to return right to their place in that vault, allowing unlimited blade work, so to speak.

It's what makes him so proficient and deadly as an Archer class. Quite frankly, he'd be unstoppable as Saber, so long as his ego didn't get too in the way.
