I think it is mostly organic. The majority of 4chan posters doesn't even remember the time before idiots imported Wojak here from Krautchan. A large minority, probably still underage, literally grew up trading Pepes on Snapchat or whatever. Anons who say /jp/ is dead who haven't ventured to 4chan's other boards since 2013 just do not know how bad things really are out there.

There are boards with board culture that is still distinct, but it feels like their culture, too, has sustained damage from the outside Internet or is outright dying. I'll leave it to other anons to name them if they want. Boards without strong defenses --- and /jp/'s defenses are comparatively strong even now --- are not assimilating newcomers. There are too many of the newcomers and their quality is lower because the average poster on the Internet is lower quality than 15, 10, maybe even 5 years ago. What is happening instead is that these boards themselves are assimilating into the boarder 4chan culture, which is a mixture of the fastest and most influential boards, /v/, /pol/, /a/ and /r9k/, Reddit, Twitter and Discord. (Don't trust people who say Discord is only as bad as IRC was, by the way. While the way they influence a board is similar, Discord is worse because IRC channels never got as big and popular as Discord ``servers'' and were never as accessible to normalfags.)
