I'm honestly not embarrassed about anything I listened before getting into Vocaloid, and sometimes listen to a few of these things out of nostalgia or when in the right mood (though I now listen to Vocaloid 97% of the time, other 3% are game/VN OSTs or instrumentals from Vocaloid artists I like).

Without going into too much details about the artists, I used to listen to a lot of Symphonic and other Extreme Black Metal bands, as well as Pop/Rock and other atmospheric music artists.
As time passed by and as I grew to go back to anime etc as I used to as a kid, I would be attracted to anime songs and the likes over Youtube, but particularly Trance artists and all these old Nightcore songs and covers which had anime pics in them. Probably due to liking extreme vocals from my Black Metal past, and the fact that I'm not an English speaker, I really enjoyed Nightcore for what it was. I'm aware it's very badly seen.

Via listening to a bunch of electronic music I then happened to see bits of the 2010 Giving Day concert and fell in love with Vocaloid at that point. My memories of the past is getting worse as time is passing by and for that reason giving an exact date on when I started listening is a bit hard, but based on what Windows is telling me regarding early Vocaloid files I downloaded it was Spring 2012, so around that time or a bit earlier than that. It doesn't feel like it's been 6 years already, I can't imagine how it feels for those who were there when it all started. It's tempting to say "I wish I had started back in 2008" but then I wouldn't be the person I am today nor have the same relationship with it as I have now. I love Vocaloid so much and am excited to continue discovering new artists and songs, either from the past or the future.
