If they are aimed at adults they tend to publish them as tankoubon, since they can afford to spend more. If you see the konorano rankings of 2024, most novels popular with readers 30+ are tankoubons.
They probably don't even consider how much text is in the book, since bofuri's volumes are shorter than the average, but in general the font is bigger and the paper is thicker. It's pretty much a scam if you buy the ebook, as the price is higher than ebooks from a bunko but without the benefits
