More recently, what seems to have happened is Reddit stole the entire slew of "mainstay" memes on 4chan, and thus all of the boards had an allergic reaction to the hijacked memes and completely rejected them.

Meanwhile, these boards create almost no content of their own, and haven't for ages, while /jp/ produces loads of "ironic shitposting" things. These, in turn, were hijacked by the rest of 4chan to replace their own stolen memes.

Maybe the people like me ruining it. I only half-browsed /jp/ for ages after it was created because, honestly, I thought the board was utterly horrible and I had little interest in talking about Touhou since I had done on that /a/ on-and-off forever, not to mention having seen at least 50% of the fanart thanks to the endless touhou hijacks. It felt worse than /a/. Worse than /v/. This sure didn't last though, I don't know how or why, but the other boards took a nosedive straight into the marina trench maybe around 2009 and perhaps everyone ran to /jp/ like I did.

Sorry dude. I probably helped ruin it.
