Consider, however, that this is an anonymous imageboard and thus gives people the opportunity to talk about things they can't under other circumstances, but for any reason feel the need to communicate; and it's not in your sphere of judgment to condemn them, as freedom is always the freedom of others.

I am not an expert in this field, but I would suggest that even though you seem to imply otherwise, Touhou is indeed a big part of their lives and serves as the canvas to project their desires onto - in by itself, it is replaceable, but its function as an environment in which their fantasies can foster is crucial. Which is, to some extend, true for us all.

I'd like to close on the personal note that I, too, can not imagine myself being in a romantic relationship with any of the Touhou characters, and like them for their generally endearing - or sometimes, less-endearing - qualities, but at the same time consider enjoying my body through masturbation a natural and pleasant part of my life.
