Yes. I can see it now. Her parents recently succumbed to the plague, and then here comes Gilles, offering a home and brighter future. Remilia, having no real option, accepts and takes Flandre along.

Everything seems normal at first. They are given clothes, food and an education from this seemingly kind gentleman, yet they find it odd that he is never up during daylight. Cue in Flandre being curious and seeing too much than her young mind could handle, and goes insane. Gilles, getting his kicks out of both of them horrified, decides to make it worse and turn them into monsters like himself, forcing them to drink blood, much to the disgust of Remilia (and thus her excuse for not having a large appetite: She still finds it disgusting).
