Even if you can mince guards whenever, it's a huge pain to use shops since you need to use something with incognito every time. Paying the taxes would probably be cheaper than all the scrolls and disguise kits you'd have to carry around.

On the other hand, if you can pick up the wicked treasure from Noel's quest, you probably can stay above criminal without too much effort and still do whatever you want since it cuts down on karma penalties. It's probably advisable to get that first in case you run into a situation where you might not want to be a criminal, like wandering vendors that you aren't able to kill yet.

Something else I was wondering lately: has anyone thought about a list of things the game has ended up referencing? The wiki has things on the individual pages, but there's no comprehensive list. Lovecraft, Guild Wars and Bioshock end up coming up a lot. Then there would be stuff like, was it nethack for the @ monster and the puppy cave?

Plus expands on it, and I guess that's popular enough to go through as well. Pascal from Shin Megami Tensei is an easy one. I'm not sure if Lityou/Sangetsu is one. Is the Murder Knight a masked rider? Stuff like that.
