There is no point in playing a Touhou game without your favorites so don't focus on gaymeplay. She will sooner or later have a rerun, so start saving if you really like brooding Remis. Otherwise, pic related shows future Relic 2hus, which are expected to be at least very very good.
A character is strong if she either: has an absurd number of breaks, has an absurd damage scaling, has an absurd amount of utility, or any combination of those, which happens more likely than not for recently released units. Old 2hus can still work in this regard, depending on the sp cost for the Rebirth mechanic, or how you enable them to complement each other.
The "meta" clear consists of 5 - 8 sp farming events up to certain milestones, which used to be 250k points for the paper doll, then it moved to coins + sp + lotto + whatever from the event store, and now is at least 150 rare points for the EPIC doll + whatever to clear what you need from the store.
Tower is hard if you just started playing. As soon as you start unlocking LWs it will quickly turn out to be easy enough to ignore until the last day.
Actual hard content consists of Character EX and Elemental EX stages. The former are balanced according to JP, which is not balanced at all, the later are actually balanced according to some mechanic (you may or not be able to accomplish depending on your 2hus, like Moon requiring AoE Moon nukers, Fire requiring 2 ST Fire nukers, Water requiring strong Water or strong mage + human killer nukers, and Star requiring Edge Flan or Banana Reisen [so far]).
