I thought the implication was that they had to keep it in secret because of Kyrie and the inmense family drama it would lead into. Whenever his dad got mentioned I thought all his attributes applied to Rudolf. It would solve the issue with Maria's erratic behaviour and I thought all the evidence which said otherwise was just meta.

Guess I'm the only one here who believed this.
