Sure it's escapism. But for me in the past I just felt emptiness most all the time. I'm not the type of person that can go out and just meet people and 'improve my life' and and all that. For one thing an introvert, for another social anxiety, for another preferring to be alone a lot of the time. So vocaloids can help me to not notice such things and enjoy life much more.
