Honestly, Shimakaze does absolutely nothing for me. Like another anon said in an old thread, it's like they just picked fetishes out of a hat and threw them together, and it just looks silly. It doesn't help that I don't like the stockings or the thong or the ridiculous "skirt" by themselves anyway, let alone together.

Choukai has the kind of lewd outfit that I much prefer.

I always felt like that was happening before the update anyway. If my carriers failed to take out all the destroyers I could pretty much count on Mutsu targeting a destroyer with first shot.

That one's been changed numerous times though, so who knows. It also showed the last formation raising evasion until recently, I'm pretty sure. It does say in the notes that it makes you get critted more, which could explain why he says his Shimakaze gets critted all the time. Personally I use the double line formation almost all the time, except for tough bosses or submarines.

Leaving gameplay aside for a moment, what I want to know is why the FUCK does Choukai get almost no art (like 4 pages on pixiv last I checked). Shimakaze does nothing for me, but Choukai made my dick diamonds when I acquired her a few days ago (dat midriff, dat pose).

It might be my imagination, but it does kind of feel like we're getting more (good) art of other ships lately instead of just Shimakaze. There's always been plenty of bad art of the others, but it was obvious the good artists were just jumping on the bandwagon with drawing Shimakaze. Maybe more of them are actually playing the game now and getting their own favorite ships instead.

Yeah, I just tried it again, got sent north instead of south, enemy carriers beat up Yura too badly while my battleships waste their shots on enemy destroyers, had to withdraw. Even worse, Mutsu and Yamashiro took a couple hours worth of damage, looks like I'm going to do some more 2-2 and go to bed during long repairs.
