Unfortunately that's the hardest one to get right. It's a delicate balancing act. You need to:

1. Make keeping her powers important enough so both characters think they're worth protecting enough to keep them from getting together until the inciting incident.

2. Make them not important enough so the characters don't look like selfish assholes for their eventual willingness to cast them aside. "We just wanted to have sex" isn't a good enough excuse.

And I forgot to mention since she's not a monstergirl as the thread knows her. She's going to be white. White like Seaport here. I'll probably explain it as an expression of the dormant genes of an ancient race or something like that. Maybe she'll have horns. I've been toying with a setting for a book for years and the women who can use magic in that setting all have a very peculiar set of horns.
