Well mindflayers are mysterious even to other monsters so they may not be able to help much, but they could probably point you in the right direction at least.

A sphere of tryst is what you really need if you want to find a hard to find type of monster though.

A huge hemispherical slate.
A pattern is engraved on the surface, and if you look closely it is a map of surrounding continents and islands.
By touching the hemisphere the magical tool begins to move, and if you say the name of a species in this state, every location that species is located will begin to shine faintly.
However, the scale is extremely small, because it is a map that can only distinguish the contour of continents and islands, the position can only be specified to the extent of somewhere on this island or the middle of a continent, you cannot determine exactly where they are in a town or forest, nor things like the number etc.

In this Celestial Sphere you can locate not only mamono, but humans, animals, angels and the like are also included.
The name of the species needs to be said exact, and if it is wrong the Celestial Sphere will not react.
Also, "Mamono" is not a race name, it is a generic name of various species, so specific races like "Lamia" or "Succubus" need to be said.

Although just a section, it has the power to see the world and project that information, and it is one of the magical tools that gathers magical skill and sophisticated wisdom.
And yet, this is also great big "Dud".

Nonetheless, you can examine the rough distribution of specific mamono species, you can know the places where angelic beings such as "Angels" and "Valkyies" are staying, and you can also examine the rough location of races with very small populations.
Gentlemen thinking about wanting to marry a race with extremely few indivduals such as "Dragon", by all means why not attempt it?
Although I should say, this hemisphere exists only in places such as Sabbath's base and the sorcery institutions of nations that have become Mamono Realms. Other than that, there could be a small fraction left behind around abandoned research facilities.

To be clear there are already a lot of monsters who have trouble getting a man, though not so much that they are unwanted but more because it can be hard to reach areas with a lot of available men (a lot of the world is uninhabited and thus a monster may have to take a long and arduous journey).

To help guide such monsters is why the celestial spheres of trysts were invented, albeit they turned out to be flops.

The MGE is a world of happy endings, but the happy part can take a long time to occur. Just look at that kraken in world guide gaiden 3 that had to wait literal centuries for her husband to be born and find her.

Many married monsters would likely be happy to help with such an endeavor, though they may prioritize introducing you to their unmarried friends and relatives.

One ideal would be to find a married baphomet or other high ranking Sabbath member and see if they could hook you up with access to a celestial sphere of trysts to help narrow down your search for a rare species.

You mean the celestial sphere of tryst? As you noted, they were failures for their intended purpose, which may be one reason they're so rare.

But anyway, I don't see the comparison to GPS. The spheres aren't meant to help navigation, there are likely other spells much more useful for that.

Indeed, helping men find rare monsters is one application of it. Though it doesn't cover the whole world.

Still, I'd wager there are at least several hundred baphomets world wide. The only monsters noted to have "very few individuals" are dark matter, and presumably automatons (since the only ones that currently exist are those that have been dug up in ancient ruins).

This one was unexpectedly easy. I was going to do only half today but it was too interesting to stop. Anyway another translation, this time the Celestial Sphere of Trysts. My original translation was Celestial Sphere of Meeting, but now that I understand the purpose of the item Tryst seems a more specific definition.
