This is part of a character descripion on a website. The character "X" is friends with a character named "Y". Both of them were at some point, but not necessarily the same point, previously in the dimension "Z" and are now in a different dimension.

Does the 自身 refer to X's own time in dimension Z, Y's own time in dimension Z, or both of their times? Or is it ambiguous?
