Similar to what anon said, you should be very strict with yourself and set yourself rules. In my case it's easy since I earn money through both my bank account and Paypal account. My bank account pays bills and food, and Paypal is used to buy otaku merchs. I NEVER broke that rule and never plan to break it. Try to come up with something similar.

Set up an account over myfigurelist and start making up a wishlist in order to understand what you'd really like. Try to not buy on impulse, and always ask yourself where you'll be putting whatever you'll be buying. You'll need to browse and lurk a lot to get a sense on how much things cost. Also avoid anything sold by Chinese/Hong Kong people, you'll get scammed and it will be a bootleg for sure. Bootlegs are not worth it.
