I'm a bit slow, so it took me 3 days to learn hiragana/katakana. Now I'm actually able to read them without glancing at the chart and at a reasonable pace. I'm actually starting to enjoy learning Japanese and things starting to click together. Currently on chapter 3 of genki after a week of studying 30 mins to an hour a day. It's going to take me ages to learn.
