seems like it, what that anon said + even when their stat growths struggle to compare to the new toys you find later they are still able to pull their own weight thanks to the cover spell which lets you abuse enemy AI by constantly making a sleeper absorb/block an attack that was meant for the original target

most choices don't matter and the only differences are dialogue/gameplay diffs, the exception to this is in the final stretch where you will need a 50% compendium to trigger something

explore wherever, akyuu says you can just leave a place if its too tough but it's more fun to sequence break IMO
