Eirin was born on Earth. She was the mentor of the sage who founded the Lunar Capital. Since she's a human she has the same limitations as any other human. As described in Bohemian Archive in Japanese Red, youkai like Ran are supercomputers compared to humans. Yukari happens to be a youkai who's smart compared to even youkais.

SSiB was a game of wits between Yukari and Eirin, and in the end Yukari out smarted her. Eirin is like a computer with a 500GB harddrive and an outdated 1-GHz processor. Yukari by comparison is a computer with a 2MB harddrive and an Intel Core i7 3.4 GHz processor.

Yukari isn't 1/10th Eirin's age yet she's already able to outwit her.

I still figure Reimu is going to play it straight and die old leaving behind a legacy of fear and respect for a shrine maiden who didn't take any crap and just got stronger as she got older until she became a unbeatable old battleaxe.

We'll never know though, so it's really down to preference.

Why is Yukari considered powerful?

This essentially means Yukari has the ability to manipulate everything. Be it the border between life & death, night & day, past & future, or fantasy & reality. The time, concentration, distance, energy, and resources Yukari needs to manipulate the aforementioned boundaries are mere speculation. However, like most youkai, Yukari is weak against shinto/buddha chants and enchanted items. Meaning, even a 7 year girl could defeat Yukari (assuming she had access to Yukari's krytonite).

If you've read the link posted above it also says Yukari was able to create an entire world. Every event that occurs in the games takes place in a world Yukari created:

Wrong. Humans eat creatures that they think are inferior to them (i.e., the creatures that pose no danger to them). And the only creatures we don't eat are the ones that are loyal/obedient to us like dogs and cats. But even that is a stretch because in some human cultures it's normal to eat cats and dogs (China to name a few).

To youkai we humans are the inferior creature. According to ZUN Remilia is able to crush boulders with her fingers. Ran is able to calculate complex equations in microseconds.

Okay, so the rules of our fight are as follows. We both can shoot as many bullets as we want. You can fill the entire screen with crazy insane patterns of bullets. If you hit me once, you win. If I hit you like six billion times, you lose. Are these terms acceptable?

Yukari is the mastermind of the Touhouverse. Every fiction must have a big boss. Yukari just happens to be said boss of the Touhouverse. Let's review:

1).Yukari had a hand in the creation of Gensokyo.
2). She's one of the oldest youkai in the Touhouverse. (Her existence predates Gensokyo.)
3). She's the one that encouraged the youkai to go to Gensokyo.
4). The youkai depend upon her. Since Gensokyo is made up of borders she could destroy Gensokyo instantly. The "spellcard rules" that every youkai follows means nothing to Yukari seeing how she's the *only youkai that has the ability to travel to and from Gensokyo when the barrier isn't weakened. Gensokyo's border is so powerful that not even the Lunarians could damage it; hence the reason why Kaguya fled to Gensokyo.
5). Yukari once led an army of youkai to invade the moon. (Sounds like a boss to me.)
6). She defeated Ran who was considered one of the strongest youkai.

Yuka is just another youkai that benefited from Yukari's grand scheme. Soon ZUN is going to explain Yukari's motives. Unless she's just using her power to bring people together for sunshine, peace, and roses, she could be planning on 'containing' the shrine maidens. Canon fact: Reimu gets trained by the best of the best.

But that won't do for Reimu and Marisa; if they don't keep eating, they'll get weak and eventually run down. A lot of foods high in salt content make great drink chasers and good snacks. Some rice and something salty would probably perk them right back up for a while.

I really don't like her. I make my living by collecting things from the outside world, so I really do owe her a lot, since she keeps Gensokyo and the outside world separate, but whenever she's around it feels like something's looking right through me, and I can't think straight.

"Yukari's actually been helping me train lately. It's really weird."

"Training Reimu ... ? A youkai? That's odd, a youkai training a youkai hunter ... She has to be plotting something. What are you going to do about it, Reimu?"

No matter how you look at it, that just means you're doing exactly what Yukari wants you to do.

Gensokyo is the place it is because of Yukari's ability to control borders. Her power is what separates Gensokyo from the outside world. There really aren't any youkai in Gensokyo who could go against her will. Needless to say, a human probably wouldn't stand a chance.

According to ZUN, Mokou has bested Kaguya in a few encounters. If she cant manage to beat a human with matches, how do you think she'll be able to defeat a youkai whose powers are on par with the gods of Gensokyo? It's like saying the Joker can defeat Superman even though he struggles to defeat a nutcase in a Halloween costume. wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Come on guys, that was funny.

And according to ZUN, Eirin is much stronger than Kaguya but she limits her powerlevel in respect to Kaguya. As far as Lunarians go, Kaguya is lower tier. The Watatsuki sisters are the reason why she fled for her life. The punishment they had in plan for her was probably an eternity of deaths. Eirin or Shiki on the other hand might be stronger than Yukari.

The thing that makes Yukari so special is that she's the only youkai that has a canon elaboration of her hax. I quote, "ability to manipulate boundaries is one of the strongest abilities youkai are known to possess." Apparently, it's a power that's on par with the gods of Gensokyo. Any speculation about the powers of any other Touhou's hax is not canon; therefore, it's just speculation (a.k.a fanfiction).

I still don't get exactly where Marisa/Flandre came from, it seems like it originates from other doujin works seeing as the extra stage itself just has Flandre and Marisa make Agatha Christie references at one another before fighting.

It makes a nice story but doesn't seem to have any foundation in anything ZUN wrote.

No matter, I'm all for Border Team. Reimu and Yukari play off one another rather well, though any of the teams from Imperishable Night make good pairings.

If by strongest you mean brute strength and muscle it would be Yuugi followed by Suika.

If you meant "hax power level" then it would be Yukari (a Youkai that's older than Gensokyo and has the power to manipulate borders). Which technically gives her the power to do pretty much anything. Anything you throw at her will probably end up popping out of your stomach and into your rectum. ZUN actually uses Yukari as a scapegoat to explain why Reimu is able to beat some of the other over powered bosses. I.e., Reimu is usually accompanied by Yukari on some of the more tougher battles.
