The problem is the lack of subtlety. This is a HUGE issue with the console/MG Higurashi sprites, but it also applies to Umineko to an extent.

Ryuukishi loves to draw vague expressions that appear to be portraying a certain emotion at first glance but can mean something completely different in another context. The other artists often fail to understand this and just copy the original face in their own style with no regard for the subtlety they had. So they end up looking out of place when used in a different context, because they have lost their subtlety and are too inclined to one emotion or another.

If you understad what I mean, you should be able to tell the difference between the faces in the middle of your image. One is vague enough that it doesn't look out of place in different contexts, while the other is too straightforward and looks a bit weird when it's supposed to portray resignation or maturity.

It's not the best example, but take a look at the original Higurashi expressions and you can easily tell when they are vague enough to work in different scenes. Replace them with the console equivalents and they no longer work as they should because they are too exaggerated.

Meow was strangely absent most of the time, though. It's suspicious. I guess she spends a lot of time unconscious and is almost never there during Miyao's internal monologues and solo scenes. But to be absent from the party itself, the fucking final battle where her parallel thoughts would be really useful, and even the TIPs... That's just too suspicious.

I love how almost every single sprite has a sweatdrop variant, for some inexplicable reason.
