Ok, finished Omokage Railback. Now I kinda get the hate. Here's my non-spoiler thoughts.

I was actually following this VN for more than a year. Initially just wanted it for the Nono look-alike and the VN itself is set in an inaka so I just want nothing special and comfy. But the way they built up the premise, the setting, world etc in their website looked promising since there was the whole two sides of the family and their own circumstances. And then the prequel came and that really changed my (and most other people's) expectations. After a month or so, there's finally the trial which felt nothing like the prequel but more of a foreshadowing of what's next to come because of the prequel and hints.

Finally got to the main game. Common route IS the main story. All important things that happened was there. I do like the mix of comedy and serious moments but there's more comedy and lighthearted moments than serious ones. I think the common route was fine, it ended and resolved but it was too quick and there wasn't enough buildup and action to make it a satisfying one though.

Now everything after the route, it's pretty much which grill wud u fug. Any differences between the two families is quickly resolved in their own routes like it was nothing. Maybe Juri's was good because it relates to the prequel but still, it was too quick. And after finishing each character's route, you unlock a "winter" scenario is which just more ichaicha.

As for the characters, the MC stands out as much as an electric pole which felt weird seeing his character during the prequel. Juri (==) Iroha > Lemon > Aya probably in terms of character. The other Yoshioka's didn't get enough screentime aside from the sister to actually give a shit why they're either scary or someone you should care for as an ally. And I was expecting more from the two nig-nogs but they're just the token exaggerated NIHOWNGOW speaking gaijins.

I'm no fast reader but I feel like 10 hours is the common route desu. I did spend maybe 15 or more so total hours with the routes and their winter scenes.

tldr: I don't hate it but I don't like it neither. I'm...just satisfied because I was actually expecting it as a moege when it was first announced. Everyone was bamboozled because it showed good plot and story. But the H scenes are really fucking delicious, Iroha and Aya's in particular.

I think I can tell more once people have a go at it but I guess everyone's avoiding it now because of seeing the reviews.
