Has anyone ever considered that the entire cast of Imperishable Night is significantly stronger than the casts of the other games, y'know, with the main characters fighting in pairs and all?

Okay, so playing Mountain of Faith, I was cruising through on Normal, grabbing stuff at the item border line, and then bam, Nitori Wriggle Kicked me and game over.
Most embarrassing moment in an STG I've ever had was seeing "Ahhh, a human!" and her flying away without firing a single shot, followed by Game over.
How do I avoid getting Wriggle kicked but still item border line get?
