Most likely the winning team can still perform with their mother units. Only during their promotion period (2 to 3 months), they are obliged to stay in Korea, or if they are promoting in Japan, they remain exclusively with the PD48 group. That's what happened in season 1, some members returned to their mother units off promotion, but it create alot of problems. They changed it in season 2, because the team temporarily getting separated just broke I.O.I's momentum and it caused alot of disgruntlement between the fans of certain members.

PD101 winners are guaranteed minimum $250,000 per year from CF deals alone. Imagine what 2 and a half years worth of promotion could bring.
