I refuse to believe this. Hirate was a sacrificial lamb. Management realized that even before a single was released, the group became famous because they were the sister group of Nogizaka46; the prime Nogizaka.

Hirate was chosen as the center because of her cool character and cold persona on stage, that's true, but it became a gimmick so they ran with it. To keep the money flowing and the hype at an all-time high, she obviously had to become management's toy/tool. She gave something up to remain at the top.
