Yeah, and as it turns out, TW is different from other Era games in a lot of ways, and doesn't give you full control of the girls for a reason. It's not designed for instant gratification, and the girls' talents are only changed through unique dialogue or through significant effort.
If you don't want to accept the game's challenges, you can use the cheat menu to bypass it, otherwise you should just accept that some things are difficult by design in this game.
