Ok, So i'Ve decided to give it a go and going to stay to japan for a few monts ( maybe up to a year). Currently got a basic understanding of the language ( enough to ask direction, basic questions, etc. about 200 kanji learned and gonna learn another 200 this fall).

I want to find a homestay there with japanese people ( that do know a bit of english or french, so i'm not stuck pantomiming too often) and find a low wage job to be usefull ( and not be a useless long term tourist, you could say). Got about 20k lying around if it goes to it.

Any tricks, things to know ? I'd don't know much of the prefectures, but id want one where i can make use of my language, so any suggestion there ?

Thank you for you time

Pick related, it's me when i remmber how much shit i don't know.
