The same guy that did the monster sprites for GoS also did the monster sprites for DoD. I can tell because his faces all look the same and I've been seeing his sprites in games for many years. I will admit they look much better because of the higher resolution. GoS monster sprites were low rez so they didn't look as good.

I wasn't sure if you were saying the character sprite artist from GoS did them. That's what it read like to me so I might be wrong. I don't know what the character sprite artist from GoS did in DoD, maybe the backgrounds? Maybe a few of the monster sprites? He doesn't really update his blog so it's hard to tell but I think I remember him saying he was doing backgrounds in those developer diaries. He was not the main person in charge of monster sprites.

Backgrounds:
