I'll explain one last time, in simpler terms.
Some people have the need to buy Ai-chan goods and to satisfy it there's a range of products. However, their resources are limited and also they'll only buy until their need is sated as buying more than that gives them decreasing amounts of satisfaction.
So, a normal consumer will look at their alternatives and pick the one that gives them the most satisfaction while ignoring the rest. Which goes back to the "old versus new" scenario.
Of course, this is true for the current situation as well. But if Ai-chan's company were to extend their product range, would it benefit them right now? Is the market big enough to sell everything old and new in the amounts necessary to make a profit?

What are you basing yourself on to say the new wouldn't affect the old in terms of sales?

She looks cute indeed in those glasses and labcoat.
Though they should put a little more work into those videos, as the first one didn't really hit. It would be better if she acted some related scenarios and maybe use a thumbnail with an Ai-chan with heart-shaped pupils.

I was curious and googled Softbank and damn, that's a big ass company.
Also that video has 2.2mil views, which means it's an ad video and a very expensive one at that. Judging by the content, it's likely they approached Ai's company and not the way around.
As for the event, it appears to be an intermission before a movie but instead of regular commercials, the fans will be able to talk with their Goddess for a little. It's labeled "CM event" and the media will be there too, I don't know if the intermission is the CM itself or if they're getting material to make one.
From a marketing perspective the intent is obvious, they want to mark the difference between an animated character and a virtual youtuber. For an unaware onlooker, Kizuna Ai is the former; but when that character interacts directly with the audience, it makes quite a difference. They chose a theatre for this probably to emphasize her magnitude. All this to appeal to the general public.

Now, the thing I don't get is why. Why would a massive company like SoftBank be so invested in this project?
Are we going to get Kizuna AiPhones? Will they get Hashimoto Kanna to dress like Ai-chan?
Or is Nozomi-san's pussy just that good?
