MTL is the equivalent of baking the cake yourself.
You have to touch the raw ingredients (original text) and you have to chance of doing the job properly, the only real "unnatural" is that it automates, like using a food processor.
Human translation from a group is liking buying the cake ready, and although there are very good artisans that do the translation by hand and with love, usually the translations are highly processed, has a closed source original text rip, you have no fucking idea what their method actually are, there's always drama involved and delays.
MTL is shitty only if YOU use it in a shitty way. Even then, you have a higher chance of actually learning some japanese and fixing the problem and could pottentially find a good translation.
Do you have a genuine translator artisan giving their maximum? Great, that one is preferrable and deserve all donations..
Are there only translations based on drama groups that only delivers 10 years later and that is probably using MTL themselves? Fuck them, they deserve nothing, and it is better that you yourself make the translation.
