It's a lot more fragmented these days but beyond that it hasn't really changed at all.

People do tend to be more judgemental towards randoms who try to get into contact but as long as you aren't dropping any obvious red flags the worst it'll be is them relatively politely saying they don't want to chat, and in that scenario they might just not reply.

If you know how to talk like a normal person it generally won't hurt to try. Just need to remember that kigs, for the most part, aren't professionals, they're not influencers, they're just random people that threw money at a wall to look cute. They have normal people standards and tolerances.

If you've got a reason to talk to them that really helps in my experience. Asking them for advice or where they got X or even just their opinion on certain kig things goes a long way to making you seem like an actual person with actual things to say instead of another "hi cutey ;)" or "can I wear your suit?"

As minor final note, it's rather obvious but getting a kig makes it suprisingly easy to just drop by peoples' dms and ask if they're going to any cons and/or if they want to meet up.
