By the way, the precedent for Christians not taking the bible literally goes back at least as far as the fourth century, when Augustine of Hippo specifically rejected the Genesis account of creation.

The precedent for Jews goes back even further.

Charles fucking Dawkins believes in a historical Jesus even because he knows something about the methodology of historical research.
