NTA but when I've used the Oooooooold paintbrush on 3.1 i notice that the limited color scheme is overcome by colors that are essentially just checkered patterns of two different colors. Maybe you could try that? Though it'd take a while to emulate in MS paint since you'd have to paint individual pixels and stuff.
