There are no rules to danmaku fights. "Danmaku" is a descriptor indicating that a lot of projectiles are being launched, synonymous with "curtain-fire" and "bullet hell". It is equally capable of referring to Touhou's nonlethal magic duels and the aerial dogfights seen in countless other games.

The spellcard duel rules, which most fights in Gensokyo follow, danmaku or not, prohibit killing a human opponent in or after the battle. Killing a youkai in a spellcard duel is a gray area according to the draft of the spellcard rules that we have seen, but Touhou player characters generally never have done so, anyway.
