The last fictional part is usually way out in the GRIMDARK side of the spectrum, but are a good deal of tongue-in-cheek or outright hilarious examples as well. Such as Freddy Milton's various settings where the souls of the recently deceased are personally flown by dragons in spaceships to a chaotic and overburdened afterlife to await reincarnation. Souls from earth in particular are lost all the time due to "sigma radiation" as the financially challenged celestial bureaucracy has no plans of investing in environmentally friendly engines on low-priority routes.

Still not quite as screwed up as the afterlives of various major world religions, I guess.
