The fandom is still active, it's just not as explosive and widespread like it was in 2009-2012. People who claim Touhou is dead often comparing it to the booming era which actually isn't as good and genuine as people think.
If it were to happen now, it will certainly mangled with normalfaggotry that has been enveloping the internet for years now and even Touhou already touched that sphere in some way. I surely don't want a second (or third) Touhou boom.
