It could be interpreted as Kasen giving Reimu her last meal. Historically, the last meal was often not even given as a sign of kindness, but rather as a clever "last insult". And Kasen did say fighting her on an empty stomach would be no fun.

But yeah, this is Touhou. Kasen is probably just in it for some fun games.
