i'd say game addiction is the worst of all these internet-age meta-addictions.

truly there are worse games to waste your life on. all i have to show for valuable life hours sunk into this game is some gay hats. i also never idle on this account as i own plenty of alt accounts purely for generating in-game currency in which i can trade for other forms of virtual wealth.

there is nothing in my backpack that would truly excite the non-tf2 player. it's all hats and ridiculous items. during halloween event 2011 i spent three straight 16 hour days in a personally operated server to acquire a full set of haunted quality items, which turned out to be completely worthless. it's 3 hats per class, 9 classes, and rewarded from gifts that only dropped once every 15 minutes in which you had to compete to find against at least 6 other people. the time spent doing that was also the occasion when i hit the 3000 hours mark. it's the event that made me decide this game was a piece of shit waste of time and that i was too pants-on-head retarded into playing it.

on a side note i have a friend who wasted over 5000 hours of his life on final fantasy and considers this milestone his personal rock bottom in life.
