>Touhou’s always been pretty commercial hasn’t it?
You're right, but maybe I've chosen my words wrong. What I meant is that it has become a lot more global and not as "niche", for lack of a better word. One way of putting it would be that there is Lost Word fans that don't know what Touhou even is. By the way, I'm not playing the elitist. Just making an example of how its popularity has spread. Even something as much of an inside joke like fumos have become a meme among the general public that aren't necessarily Touhou fans.
What I mean is that Touhou has become bigger in the west (not necessarily BIG, compared to the east) and its marketing has definitely adapted to the western mindset, which might be not as comfy as eastern marketing, but that might be just my personal opinion.
>believe it only exists to drain money from your wallet
everything commercial boils down to this, what really defines its motives is how passionate are the people working on it.
I think Lost Word is pretty alright, it's been inviting creators on the internet to contribute to the project by having them create exclusive content for it, however all of them have been big names, which is a shame because there is some amazing smaller creators who have absolutely astonishing passion for what they do with Touhou and its community.
