Rika's desire to go to St. Lucia is well-established, but we see very little in the way of explaining why she cares so much about Satoko being with her.
I mean, sure, we know from the original how Rika feels about Satoko, but that seems like the kind of thing you'd also show in your new show, especially when it's the fucking core of the plot.

In the scene right after that, Rika talks about how she "knew" that Satoko would join her in the end (after she insinuates that Satoko is a shit friend for gently suggesting that maybe they shouldn't worry about high school yet and leaving behind everything they know to attend some distant school), and the next loop have her very vocally reject the idea of choosing between Satoko and St. Lucia.
