We are not butthurt by the ending. Aged Ange meeting amnesia-ridden Battler in their late days is perfectly okay. Even more so since they have both lead a good life. The final bit at the orphanage is also fine by me.

What is not okay is, that Ryukishi keeps pressing the point "to not stop thinking", that the mystery is "fair", that all his readers are stupid "black goats", that we have to trust him, and then refuses to give us an answer after we have come up with out theories. The whole last episode is nothing but him making excuses screen after screen to close the cat box and not say what really happened.

It is not us that has stopped thinking, it's him.
Also, there is a limit to breaking the fourth wall.
