That is how the real portion of /jp/ feels too. I can't say that all of /jp/ reads manga or watches anime, but I think those that do have a more refined taste for it all. I doubt we're the ines really watching K-On and other moe shit. Your OP image is a good example of this I think. Back when the original Ota was around we had an ongoing manga thread on Otaku media. Shit got real. Homunculus, real horror manga, light one volume novels on real love or life in a volume, etc. I guess what I am tryinf to say is that just because /jp/ may read manga or watch an anime here or there doesn't put us on any scale near g/a/y shit: We're scholars. Nothing less.
