2 might be the """better""" game, but it showed it's hand before the whole thing began. The story strikes me as a more convoluted fetchquest than 1's almost quake style eldritch horror / occult science. HL2 sometimes strikes me more as a techdemo of the source engine than anything else, which might make it feel more dated than it really is.

It's crazy how much non-/jp/ stuff ends up being discussed because someone mentioned something else.
