not the anon you're talking to, but you're not really seeing language-learning from the POV of people who pick it up as a hobby. I'm guessing your main context regarding it has to do with situations you're kind of forced to do it as a means to accomplish other goals (you mentioned school/work), when hobbyists do it for the sake of learning. do it on your free time (japanese may not be the best intro to it since it's less "intuitive" coming from english) and you'll find it's very gratifying to go from understanding vocab to sentences to speech. not personally into it, but people even learn fake languages (conlangs) for the hell of it, and even as niche as that sounds, I'd wager those weirdos outnumber the people who enjoy hololive as a hobby.
