I always wondered. I never really understood how simple humans crossing the border to Gensokyo magically got their powers. Is it a manifestation of their psyche or something?
Anyway, Gensokyo is not an idyllic place to live in if you look at the dynamic between humans and Youkai. Honestly, it would be possible for Humans and Youkai to coexist to a certain extent. The functional ones of course, not the "kill, eat human, sleep" ones.
Reimu is a big lazy Miko anyway, so at least she won't be to blame if Youkai disappeared.
We shouldn't really try to wager whether one politic is better than the other for Gensokyo since it'll stay speculation forever unless that good ol drunk bastard ZUN actually shit something about it.
